Following my Fine Art degree, I have focused on community projects and work for exhibition. My practice can be divided into two areas, pencil portraiture and Textile Art. My pencil drawings have focused on the close observation of faces, hands and feet. The face, hands and feet are key elements of the body to me as an artist, in that they reveal identity. The identity of people is important in this work, and consequently the identity of myself. I find ‘low tech’ materials and drawing instruments immensely appealing in revealing a raw ‘truth’ about the subjects I study. In my textile work I explore notions of femininity and female identity, and I enjoy making textiles subversive to the viewer. In textiles I also enjoy exploring notions of attraction and repulsion.

“I know (or at least I have been told) that that substance the silkworm discharges while making its cocoon would poison it, if it kept it inside. It purges itself of it. To save itself, it empties itself.” - André Gide
